I began experimenting with Abstract art age: 18, and to this day, I'm primarily a self-taught artist. I moved to London, England in the early 90's and relentlessly pursued my interests in art, music and poetry. I've exhibit
my work in London, as well as internationally. I'll indeed exhibit anywhere where there's a wall space and leave all snobbery behind. After many great years of working in London, I've decided to move to Göttingen/Germany in 2011 where i currently live and work.
Much of the content found on my paintings come from everyday life situations, put through a very personal filter. My work is distinct, bold, aggressive
aggressive and it certaintly is objective (it speaks for itself). A journey where chaos becomes order, then chaos again. I've never liked to explain a certain piece of my work ...unless asked. When i make a piece that's how I wanted it to be, hopefully it can speak for itself and whatever it says to the viewer It's fine by me. I believe each person takes something a little different from the same piece.
I look at a piece each day and decide to add or destroy any section of the painting I may not be happy with. At times I dislike a piece I’ve created and love it the next day which is the contradiction, or paradox I would hope to create in others. My paintings have a unique nature to them because I don't like to sketch things realistically. I like the intangible, the crude, the representation of human decadence ...And when I say I like, I don't mean I enjoy it or love it, those are just the things that take me into profound thinking. The images present in my work are abstract, but yet recognizable. I use paint, pencils, collage, etc . as a means to describe what I see or feel. As well as using the traditional method of pallet
and brush, most of the times I just apply paint straight from the tube and use my hands. If any of you ever have the chance to see my work up close,
you will see that the paintings have a lot of structure.
Another important part of my style is also to incorporate any kind of materials into my work. Pencils, graphite, oil sticks, acrylic, oil, house paints, charchoal, markers, crayons, enamel, collage, glue, hard as nails, wood, saw dust ...anything at hand really. Art for me is the highest form of expression. Life is not only about creation, but destruction too, about bridges burnt as well as built. The greatest reward for me as an artist is not that my work is understood, but that people continue to stare and wonder. Welcome to the world of Nuno Evaristo, maybe It's your world too.
Influences
My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience. The artists I most admire are Jean Michel Basquiat, Robert Rauschenberg, Jonathan Meese, Antonio Saura, Frank Auerbach, Joseph Arthur, Georg Baselitz, Alexandra Huber, Alberto Datas, Peter Feichter, Marty Poorter and many more to list...
