Is it suspicious selling too low? Many artists think so... i think is fucking BULLSHIT! If you like a work of Art do you really care how much it costs, or you just buy it cos you love it? Maybe showing off to your mates on how much you paid for a work of Art makes you feel bigger than anyone else? Pricing paintings too high may turn off potential buyers. I'm OK with expensive paintings. I have expensive paintings, but i try to be fair with my Art. I always have in mind that some people apart from the filthy rich also appreciate Art. I remember when i was a kid, looking at Art galleries, and think to myself: "HOW MUCH I WOULD LOVE TO OWN A CERTAIN PAINTING" . Art is not only for the rich, so think of that when you price your shit. The emotions you can get out of a work of Art is way more important than the price it costs. Price it as you want, but give anyone else a chance to own one of your paintings/Sculptures. Some Art is so fucking and rediculously expensive that owners hide it away in safes and you never get to see it. Is that what Art is all about? Well not for me thanks.
How should you decide on what price to put on your paintings? Some of you may have a formula that's based on the cost of materials, time and so on. Others may just work it out by the square inch. I personally don't work that way at all, as most of the times i use found and recycled materials which cost me next to nothing. What i'm saying is that a good work of Art is priceless regardless of whatever materials you use to create it or whatever time it may have taken you to complete it. One of the things that aggravate the fucking most, is when artists market their Art and brag about the quality of the materials they use. "ACID FREE PAPER" (wow! that really matters), DEEP EDGE CANVAS", (super!) "WINDSOR & NEWTON OILS" (yeah! i get you dude!) and the bullshit goes on. I mean who gives a fuck about that anyway? That ain't gonna make your work worth more, is it? In fact my favourite paintings tend to be the ones that take me the shortest time to completion, (sometimes only a few minutes) and also the ones who look the roughest and simplest. So it goes without saying that i don't price by time or materials. I don't time myself when I paint, and i don't look for any specific materials. Whatever comes to hand will do. However long it takes, it takes. I get so engrossed in painting that I lose track of time anyway. I don't paint to sell, I paint because I love it. I paint for myself. Selling to me is incidental. "I SPOKE ABOUT THAT ISSUE BEFORE SO IF YOU WANNA KNOW MORE, CHECK OUT MY PREVIOUS POSTS". I will add the gallery commission (if that's the case), plus shipping and handling, as needed of course and that should do. Usually i work by the size, simple. Paintings with the same size cost the same price. But that doesn't mean that's always the case. Weight can influence on the cost.

Just because i don't click "LIKE" on your work, that doesn't mean i think your work is rubbish or not good... I said it before, "do art
for yourself, and for yourself only" what others think of your work shouldn't fucking matter to you at all. I like what i like and you should do the same. We can still be friends, or do i have to click "LIKE" or enjoy your art to be your friend? That's just crazy, right? My girlfriend Annegret doesn't always like what i create as an artist, but i still love her, and indeed she supports all i do as an artist. Believe in whatever art you create people, if you don't GO FUCK YOURSELF, you ain't worthed anyones presious time!!! I been for a while now thinking to give away one of my small works on paper to anyone who likes my art and specially to all the people that have been supporting me throughout the years. I didn't really know how or what would be the best and simplest way to do this! To pick a person out of my catalogue of preferable friends wouldn't be fair on anyone else interested. What i devised has a plan was what i think is a simple and easy way... Go to LEAVE A COMMENT (here not on facebook) on the comment page and write whatever you feel like writing, positive or negative, it doesn't really matter, what does matter the most in these case, is what i am trying to do here, be honest ...that will do just fine. Write whatever the fuck you want and feel like writing. I will then select one person from the list of comments and pick a lucky winner. So GO WRITE SOME SHIT and good luck to you all.
We’ve all been there. Staring down the barrel of some crazy, ambitious goal, some dream, wondering how the fuck we’re ever going to pull it off. When i first realised and felt the wish to become an artist, to make art. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. (specially when support from both friends and family was FUCKING ZERO). I notice there was a lot of amazing artists and creatives out there doing awesome work dreaming of someday making a living from art. We all want to get started, but sometimes we’re missing a lot of important ingredients, or so we think!. We look at everyone else's work and think we need what they have just to get us a foot in the right door. but that’s not always the true people. You could be already a star in your own right, but of course it can take time just to find the right chemistry or shall i say your own path. It's a journey but if you keep true to yourself you'll get there, no matter how long it may take. You have to be very patience in the art world. Some people even say you should have a college degree... i say FUCK THAT, it may help and if you have one and it helped, cool!!! but i have no fucking degree and never will. You can't learn what's already in your heart. What you do need is to find a way to get it all out from the secret compartments where they hide. There can be barriers that can keep us from taking certain risks and doing what’s really important – MAKING ART. You gotta overcome that even if money is an issue.
If there’s one thing that aspiring artists continually destroy their careers with, it’s their own self doubt. But the thing to take away is that you do not need to create the world’s greatest masterpieces in order to make it as a professional artist. There’s a market for every type of art and you don’t have to be the very best in the world to sell your art. You just have to be yourself and paint for you and you only. Selling for me has always been nothing but a bonus. Think of the last piece of art you paid for. Did you buy it because it was the most technically amazing piece of work you’ve ever seen, or did you buy it because it simply told a story and connected with you? People like art that looks good, but they buy it because it makes them feel good. NOW FUCK OFF AND GO MAKE SOME ART. Love you all! ;) P.S- Doubt, is the hardest thing to overcome, but the rewards are endless. You’re not good enough the day someone tells you that you are good. You’re good enough the day that you believe you are. |
