Many artists including Mitsi B. (which whom i been a friend for a while and also been honoured to paint with) feels the same way as i when she's painting. To me every single line, texture and colour as to fall into place. I never know where the end is, but i always get there somehow. A simple line of colour, a mere scratch on the surface of the painting or even a splash of paint no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, can determine it's completion. Just as the master creator would give life to his creation. The painter transmits life, to his creation, the “painting.” in it's own and unique way.... the way he wants it to be, the way he feels it. So for anyone out there that thinks that abstract painting is just a bunch of colours, lines, and whatnot. You should make a better observation of what you're seeing, I'm sure it can tell way more than what you're able to see or perceive. Beauty sometimes can be better seen through what some may see as ugly.
Are some abstract paintings no more than a piece of canvas with lines and colour or is it more than just that? It is of course in my honest opinion far more than just that...In the hands of a painter, the lifeless piece of canvas or paper quickly gains life with it's lines, texture and colours. It transforms, or shall i say mutates itself into a variety of forms before it reaches it's final stage. (I'm talking on a personal level here, but i do know that many artists follow this same basic rule.) It is indeed a journey through many different worlds, often full of fantasy, memories, happiness, sadness, anger as well as pain. Some of which the viewers can perceive through it's composition, but never be able to fully experience it in the same way the artist would. For example "a painting that would be finished to you (the viewer), may not be finished to me", the painting hasn't gone through all it's process of meaning, and sometimes i just don't know why it's incomplete... it just isn't. I can't ever explain why, i just now it... something at some point inside you tells you it's done, and you shouldn't go any further. The piece has journeyed full circle. Some may call this madness, but to me it is the ability or maybe a gift given to the artist to see every single detail on the surface of the painting and therefore ignite it to it's hopefully eternal life. I can also say I'm not alone in my reasoning.
