My FB friend Stephen Homewood (Australian Artist) seems a bit disappointed by working so hard and not getting where he should be as an artist. Galleries don't help shit. They like to play safe, as always. Same old landscape crap. But i say this to you my friend: " who cares?" You are making great art, and that's what really fucking matters. Once Lemmy from the band Motorhead said: " I may never get paid for many of the albums i've wrote in the bands early career, or even own the Copyright. Record labels rip off bands all the time. Labels are the ones that make the Money. But you know what? They are forgettable. I say the same thing about most galleries out there. Name me a famous gallery owner? Maybe 1 or 2. Perhaps! But how many great artists do you know, heard about, and remember with great respect? Many i'm sure. Art is not about the Money. Yes it is great to make money (it is indeed the only way you can make art in the first place) but it should not be the most important Thing, or the Goal as an artist. As long as you keep making great art. You will get there with galleries help or not. These days artists make all the hard work by themselves, and when they make a good Impression on the art scene through Internet Websites, private collectors, people like you and me buying art for the love of art, and not for profit or possible future value. Galleries see a business opportunity and they come all sniffing. The cunts. My friend, being an artist is very hard indeed, and it can take many, many years before you get to the top. (It may never happen.) Welcome to the art world!!! But above all, it is a gift, that none of us should take for granted. Make art for people that care about art. Not for people that see your work as a profitable business.
